Railway Safety, Operation Pal, Block Parent Program

After the 30 minute classroom instruction, the class will be taken on a walking tour of the Village and receive instruction on personal, pedestrian, railway and electrical safety. The students will be allowed to apply the skills they have learned by driving battery operated cars throughout the Village.

  Fire Education

Know Your Address, Smoke Alarms, Escape Planning, Match and Lighter Safety, My Friend the Firefighter, Kitchen Safety, Bunker Gear

The Fire program will be based upon the Risk Watch curriculum. The children will learn the importance of knowing firefighters are our friends, and will be shown the different fire gear worn and how important the bunker gear is to protect them.

The children will then tour Sparky’s apartment where they are taught kitchen safety.

Sparky’s bedroom is equipped with a non-toxic “smoke machine” which demonstrates to the students how smoke would fill a room. The children experience how to check doors for heat by touching the door with the back of their hand. The door is warm to touch and they then exit through the bedroom window. When everyone is out safely, they discuss calling 911 from a neighbour’s house.
